Open the app, tap Add tag, then either scan the QR on the back of the tag or type the code printed under it. It looks like OWN-K7RM-4Q9X-2TH8: twelve characters in three groups of four.
A tag bought from findown.co is already on your account from your order, waiting under My Tags, so you only name it. Any other tag asks for the activation code on the card that came with it: six letters and numbers.
Choose whether it's for a pet, a car or something personal, give it a name, and decide what a finder is allowed to see. That last step is the important one: by default a finder can message you in the app but never sees your phone number.
The tag is live the moment you finish. You can change every setting later from the tag's page.
Their phone camera opens a web page for that specific item. No app, no sign-up, nothing to install on their side.
The page shows the name you gave the item, what you chose to say about it, and your note for finders. At the same moment, you get a notification that it was scanned.
From there they can write to you, and neither of you sees the other's number. If you have paused the tag or turned its messages off, the page tells them so instead.
Open the item and tap Report as lost. The item's page changes to a lost-mode message so anyone who scans it knows straight away that you're looking for it, and you can add a reward.
Lost mode does not make a tracker report more often. A tracker has no schedule to speed up: it reports when another phone passes close enough to carry the message, so a busy street gives you a position every few seconds and an empty flat can give you none for hours. What lost mode changes is what a finder sees, and that you are told the moment it is scanned or reported found.
The moment it is scanned, or someone writes to you about it, it shows in your notifications. Clearing lost mode is one tap.
Sold the bike, or passing a tag on? Open the tag on your account and delete it. It goes back to being an unused tag, and its details, messages and scan history are erased.
The next person adds it to their own account with its code and its activation code, the one on the card that came with it, so pass that on too. Nothing of yours goes with it.
A tag bought from findown.co came onto your account from your order, so you may never have needed its activation code. Find the card before you delete the tag: without it, nobody can add the tag again.
You sign up with an email and a password, and we ask you to confirm the email with a code we send to it.
Your phone number stays on your account. Nobody who scans your tags ever sees it.
On the website, My Tags has Export CSV, which downloads each tag's name, kind, status, last scan and code, and Print QR, which opens a sheet of their codes ready to print.
Select some tags first to export or print only those.
